Coincidence, that the universe took me back to Birmingham to perform one year later to the day … on the eve of one the greatest concerts and gatherings of rock and metal in history?… nah.
What an anniversary party … we celebrated hard !

Long before King Edward … there was King Luis the 1st.
Yes, Edward, Page, May and many more have influenced me as a player.
but it was my first true guitar hero, my brother Luis Bettencourt, who didn’t influence my playing … he created me as a player… without his presence and mind blowing talent I wouldn’t have picked up the instrument in the first place.
His fire, his passion, his speed , his singing, his compositions shaped me and molded me from the ground up. I wanted to be like him and play like him.
He set the stage for me in a way that no matter what influences came along later they were all built on his foundation and DNA and cell of my playing.
On this special day … he turned 70.
He was side stage in Belfast and had zero idea I would walk over and drape a guitar over him and drag him out to celebrate everything he’s given me. Love. Protection. Inspiration. And yes…GUITAR.
I bow to you … King Luis.
Than you for this gift.
I love you.

Bionic pocket and pure passion.
He’s all in… every second of every night like it’s his last performance.
Imagine as a guitarist getting to play over that!
Most will never know how much he elevates my guitar playing. You can be a great individual player, but the fact is … a band is only as good as their Drummer.
And once FIGG and I lock in, it’s a fucking wrap… he pushes my playing to a new level.
I sometimes forget how blessed and spoiled I am until I jam with other drummers.
Don’t get me wrong, They’re all great but figg is just different… he flips a switch in me that takes me somewhere else physically and emotionally.
You can spend a lifetime learning all the technical shit you want, but this you cannot teach… You can only feel it from your heart to your soul.
He is solely responsible all night For keeping the audience moving, infectiously. Just ask the 70,000 in this video, they were rockin.
We … just jump on the FIGG train and go for a ride.

This epic photo that was just taken last weekend , says it all… like this guitar, when he burst onto the scene he sent guitar playing into the fucking stratosphere.
Those who came after him in his genre of classically driven guitar … tried for his speed, his technique, his insane vibrato and while they were all trying to do it faster, cleaner and imitating his true arpeggios with sweeps… playing it perfectly and clean with precision. .. they misunderstood that Yngwie’s technical prowess was not his super power … it was the fire you could feel with every phrase … the passion and emotion with every bend as if the string was always gonna burst. It was dangerous not precise , Dirty not clean. The same lick that violently ripped your face off … could also send chills.
I was first blown away by the solo in JET TO JET by Alcatraz. I must have rewound that solo on cassette 300 times trying to understand what I had just heard. Much like Edward before him but in a completely different way.
But to me … it was his album and bible,
RISING FORCE that changed everything for me. Jaw dropping. Still. Unreachable like that guitar he’s looking up at … till this day in his genre.
Some will say … it’s just shredding. But for me it was when I realized you CAN shred whilst having emotion.
It has been a childhood dream to have shared the stage with him and an honor to now call him a friend.

Just a normal night out in my quiet home town of Temecula … with a Beatle.
WTF!!!!
A once in a lifetime moment … I am soooo blessed.
What a blast this show was to watch! Without a doubt one of best concerts I have been to in decades. I felt like a kid singing iconic song after iconic song screaming at the top of my lungs !
Of course sharing the stage for “A Little Help From My Friends” with THE Ringo Starr who was so wonderful and warm to be around , was a dream come true…But his band of All Stars ?!?! Who most are my dear friends and brothers. Got emotionally overwhelmed and teared up seeing them all at once. It’s been decades for some of us.
Collectively, the talented artists and writers on that stage, have sold over 700 million albums !!!!
